History

Carol and Don bought the Topping Farm in November 2000.  It was purchased as a deer hunting spot but has turned into much more.

Previous owners

The farm was owned by the Topping family beginning in the early 1900s.  Mr. Topping was a dairy farmer.  He also bred and showed horses.  Mr. Topping died in the 1940s leaving two spinster daughters Rita and Velma.

The Topping sisters raised sheep until Rita died in 1995.

The farm was bought by Hud who had visions of repairing the old farm house.  He split with his girlfriend and sold to us in 2000.

The rehabilitation project

The Topping farm had four buildings, all in bad shape.  The house was a shell of 1,500 sq ft.  It had no electricity, water or heat.  The 2,600 sq ft barn was in poor shape.  There was a granary attached to the east side of the barn and a milk shed between the house and barn.  Both granary and milk shed were beyond repair and were raised.  There was also a 1,000 sq ft shed which has been raised and replaced with a similar sized pole barn.

Fred Gordon farms the land and has done a great job of getting the fields back into good shape.  In 2001 we had the fields tiled and removed the fence row down the middle.

Bricker Property

In 2004 we purchased 25 acres around the corner from the Topping farm on Bricker Road.  This land is relatively damp and remains fallow.  We use it for an apiary only.

Added the Tenniswood farm

In August of 2005, we added the 160 acre Tenniswood farm.  The house is being renovated and will probably be put on the market for rent.  We're having the fields tiled; the land is leased to Clif Gordon.  Deer abound in the forest which has well groomed     trails through the woods.
